MeowByte Code

A coding agent that works in your project from the terminal. Describe what you want; it reads and searches the code, proposes edits you approve one by one, and runs your tests to check its work. Pick any tool-capable model, from fast and cheap to the strongest available, and switch whenever you like.

Install

macOS and Linux

curl -fsSL https://ai.meowbyte.net/install.sh | sh

Windows (PowerShell)

irm https://ai.meowbyte.net/install.ps1 | iex

Then, in any project

meowbyte login
cd your-project
meowbyte

meowbyte login opens your browser to approve the sign-in, so there's no key to copy. The installer downloads a single self-contained program (no Node or package manager needed) and checks it against a published checksum before installing. You can read install.sh and install.ps1 first. Update later with meowbyte update. Conversations are kept per project: meowbyte -c picks up where you left off.

How it works

You approve every change

Each edit is shown as a diff and each command before it runs. Say yes, no, or "yes for the rest of this session". Run with --yes only when you mean it.

It stays in your project

It can only read and write inside the folder you started it in, including through symlinks. Files that usually hold secrets, like .env and private keys, need your say-so before they're read.

Your model, your context

Choose a model with /model. Long sessions use the model's whole context window, and the oldest turns are summarized only when the window fills.

Project instructions

Put conventions in a MEOWBYTE.md at the root of your repo (how to run the tests, style rules, what not to touch) and every session follows them. /init writes a first draft from what it finds in the project.

Pricing

MeowByte Code uses your API credits, separate from chat plans. Each request costs the chosen model's own price plus a small margin, so the per-model table on your API keys page is exactly what you pay. Before a request is sent, it's checked against your balance, so one large request can't overdraw it.

In VS Code

The same agent as a VS Code panel: proposed edits open in VS Code's own diff view with Apply and Reject, commands wait for your approval, and "Ask MeowByte About Selection" is in the editor's right-click menu. Sign-in happens in your browser, same as the CLI.

Install

Download the extension (.vsix), then in VS Code run Extensions: Install from VSIX... from the Command Palette, or:

code --install-extension meowbyte-code.vsix

A VS Code Marketplace listing is on the way.
